What is it ?
EHS (Energy Home System) is an energy coach app that tracks your power consumption habits and provides feedback on ways you could save both energy and money.
Its purpose is to enable energy data democratization in Greece by clarifying to the user how their electricity bill is distributed across each day and notify them if their current Energy Provider is getting from them more money than they should.
The app is currently under development and is being tested with approximately 100 users who have installed the appropriate measuring device on their houses.
The main emphasis is being given on its scalability and purposefulness of the data the user receives.
My role & work
I am responsible for the software architecture and deployment of the system, making sure it scales and can handle large amounts of dense IoT data. I am using technologies such as Kubernetes for the deployment, backup and resilience of the system and golang to write code for the underlying services. I am also developing the mobile app using the flutter mobile framework and overviewing the functionality and design of the platform in general.
The difficult part is to scale the system as everything runs on premises at the moment and it also requires hardware installations which takes time and additional human resources.
